Senior House Officer - ED/Trauma (commencing January 2024)

Mō te tūranga | About the role

This role has been specially designed to provide Senior House Officers who are interested in a career in Orthopaedics but who consider they need a little more Orthopaedic experience before taking the step up to Registrar.

The run is 6 months in length, after which you will move to the main House Officer team.   Predominately, the House Officer remains in ED seeing Orthopaedic patients, but will help in fracture clinics when free.  The role is Monday to Friday 0800 – 1600 hours and is categorised as a D Band.

You’ll be part of a dedicated team providing comprehensive elective general orthopaedic services, as well as 24-hour Orthopaedic Trauma and Orthopaedic Emergency care. 

The scope of your work will be varied and will include exposure to a range of subspecialties including:

  • Trauma surgery
  • Joint replacement
  • Spinal surgery
  • Paediatric Orthopaedics
  • Foot and Ankle Surgery
  • Sports Medicine Orthopaedic Surgery
  • Occupational Medicine
  • Upper Limb Surgery

 

Mōu ake | About you

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.  You can check your eligibility for registration by visiting the Council’s website at www.mcnz.org.nz
  • We are interested in hearing from RMOs with a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience and ideally an RMO who wants a career in Orthopaedics, however, we can consider those who are keen on an ED career.

It is requirement of the NZ Medical Council that your qualifications are approved through EPIC. If you have a commitment to working in New Zealand, it is highly recommended that you start this process as soon as possible to allow your subsequent registration to be undertaken in a timely fashion. Utu whānui |Salary range

This role is covered by the terms and conditions of New Zealand Resident Doctors’ Association & 20 DHB Multi Employer Collective 17 May 2021 – 31 March 2024 (NZRDA MECA) and Specialty Trainees of New Zealand and 20 District Health Boards Multi Employer Collective Agreement 14 December 2021 – 13 December 2023 (the STONZ MECA) and the salary will fall between $91,123 - $108,600 dependant on relevant experience.
