Mō te tūranga | About the role

Central Otago and Wanaka Primary Birthing Units are establishing 4 teams of midwives to provide antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care for women who require pregnancy services in Alexandra, Clyde, Cromwell, Wanaka and the surrounding communities.


In your role as Caseloading Midwife you will be working independently to manage your own caseload, with the support of a partner, and wider team encompassing other caseloading midwives, administration, core midwives, community telehealth midwives, and a unit midwifery manager. Each team of two midwives will be part of a larger group of four midwives who will manage their own roster to provide 8 hours of ‘on the floor’ antenatal or postnatal clinic cover and 24 hour on call for lead maternity intrapartum care. We have a women-centered approach to our care, and you will be making a real difference to the patient experience for these pregnant people and their whanua.

To be considered for this role you will need to:

  • Be a Registered Midwife
  • Hold a current annual practicing certificate for New Zealand
  • Have excellent communication and the ability to easily build rapport with people from all walks of life
  • Be passionate about midwifery and have a real desire to provide the best care possible

Utu whānui |Salary range

This role belongs to the DHBs/MERAS Multi-Employer Collective Agreement, Caseload Midwives Step 2 $104,599 + p.a. pro rata.
