We are excited to offer a 1-year rehabilitation internship in our younger persons unit, Puawai .  Puawai treats patients under the age of 65 years needing neurological and physical rehabilitation following conditions such as stroke, TBI, and orthopaedic injury.  

Rotation 1: 15 January –- 13 December 2025
 

Mō te tūranga | About the role

The primary purpose of the role is to:

Under the guidance of a senior supervisor, to provide high quality clinical psychology service in the assessment and treatment of clients, ensuring clients’ needs are met in a culturally, clinically and legally safe manner. The Intern Psychologist functions as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Clinical psychology is a discipline integrating science, theory, and clinical knowledge for the purpose of understanding, preventing and relieving psychologically-based distress or dysfunction and to promote subjective wellbeing and personal development. Psychologists assess and treat mental, emotional and behavioural disorders. They use the science of psychology to treat complex human problems and promote change. They develop an individual’s resilience using strengths-based models.
 

Mōu ake | About you

• Minimum of a Bachelor Degree in Psychology 
• Currently registered as part of Doctoral or Masters’ level vocational training in psychology
• Registration with NZ Psychologist Board, with Intern Psychologist Scope of Practice
• Current annual practising certificate.
• Effective oral and written communication
• Working in a multi-disciplinary environment
• Can use Microsoft Office suite (Word and Excel)
• Can keep detailed written file notes, complete client pathway documentation and provide formal assessment reports as required.

Utu whānui | Salary range

This role belongs to the Apex, Allied Scientific and Technical Collective agreement (19 June 2023 - 30 June 2025) and sits between step 1 ($66,319 p.a pro rata) and Step 2 ($70,112 p.a pro rata)
