Here in the Southern region, we are dedicated to helping you deepen your knowledge and understanding of midwifery. We offer a comprehensive 12-month programme, 32 hours (0.8FTE) per week with the flexibility of 0.6 FTE being considered. Successful applicants will begin their role anytime from December 2024 onwards.
As a new graduate in your Midwifery First Year of Practice, you will gain experience across a range of options including (but not exhaustive):
- Secondary & tertiary hospital environments - rotations through the antenatal, labour and birthing suite, and postnatal wards.
- Primary maternity unit and hubs located in urban, semi- urban, rural and remote settings
- Experience working in a caseload team alongside our maternity settings.
- Be part of an integrated system where primary, secondary and tertiary services network and provide a safe childbearing journey

Our Director of Midwifery, Midwife Managers, Educators, Clinical Coaches and midwives will support you through your journey in caring for our whānau. Our ideal candidate will have:
- Graduated with a Bachelor of Midwifery in 2024 or 2025
- Passion and motivation for growth and knowledge to meet the needs of our whānau
- Understanding the value of communication skills to build a strong partnership with women/ pregnant people and their whānau
- Commitment to work within a multi-disciplinary and multi-ethnic environment, embracing each other’s diversity and strength
- Integrity, strong values and positive attitude.

This role falls under the terms and conditions of the MERAS Midwives Collective Agreement (1 February 2024 – 30 April 2025), Registered (Core) Midwives Salary Scale, Step 2 ($82,642) per annum, pro rata.
