About the Role

As a Mental Health Care Assistant, you will be responsible for:

  • Supporting our nurses and other members of the health care team
  • Patient movement
  • Patient cares, as required
  • Stock reconciliation
  • Ward maintenance
  • Patient watch/supervision, with one-on-one care as required

About you

We need a full-time Mental Health Assistant to support inpatient staff, you will be working predominately PM and night shifts but you may be required to work other shifts from time to time.  

As a Mental Health Assistant you’ll need to have a positive attitude and good communication skills, be able to take direction and work well as part of the team.

Applicants should also note that a full driver’s licence is a requirement for this position.

  • Be confident in providing support and assisting patients
  • Display initiative
  • Be patient focussed at all times
  • Be able to adapt to a changing environment
  • Have computer literacy.  
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings

Salary Range

This role is covered by the terms and conditions of the Te Whatu Ora/NZNO Collective Agreement and falls between Step 1 ($59,024 p.a. pro-rata) and Step 5 ($74,442) p.a. pro-rata of the Mental Health Assistants Salary Scale.
