Mō te tūranga | About the role
Join our Community and Whānau Wellbeing team at Te Whatu Ora, Southern at a key time of change where you will meaningfully contribute to our kaupapa of working in partnership with communities.
In this role you’ll be working alongside the wider public health team and partners across Murihiku, but the focus will be in Smokefree. You’ll have a passion for health and wellbeing and improving the health outcomes for our communities.
Our team has an equity focus working in partnership with communities. We work in various settings to promote health and wellbeing, reduce inequities and work alongside focus populations to support them in building on their strengths to address priorities.
Our mahi involves building connections and maintaining effective relationships; as the Kaiwhakatairanga Hauora – Health Promotion Advisor, Auahi Kore you will be involved in:
- Working as part of a team with colleagues and partners to support smokefree with a focus on communities most impacted by tobacco
- Developing a strong relationship with the Southern Stop Smoking Service and promoting pathways to their service
- Identifying and addressing health and wellbeing priorities and supporting smokefree, through building relationships with Māori providers and community organisations.
Mōu ake | About you
We are looking for a passionate motivated person who enjoys connecting and working in partnership with communities.
In this role you will be expected to have competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
You will bring experience as a contributing member of iwi and Māori communities including effective relationships with those communities that role-models our obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and achieves equity for Māori.
You will have excellent organisational, communication and computer skills. You will have the confidence to build successful working relationships with those around you, the ability to work independently or within a multidisciplinary team environment. You will also bring experience in community development or health promotion.

Utu whānui |Salary range
This role belongs to the Allied, Public Health, Scientific and Technical Multi Employer Collective Agreement and falls between Step 1 ($74,842) and Step 7 ($104,466) p.a pro rata
