Mō te tūranga | About the role

We have several opportunities available for House Officers who are seeking a Southern lifestyle.   


Teaching and training are important to us here in Dunedin and that is why our RMOs have a protected session every week.  In addition, there are several other regular activities that House Officers can join in on.  Whether it is the regular House Officer Education sessions or the journal clubs, X-ray meetings or rounds from the various services; there is always something happening.

Depending on your interest, we have several runs available for you to work in. 


These include:

Medical Oncology



Ophthalmology / Neurology




Cardiothoracic Surgery




General Surgery including Urology and Vascular

General Medicine


Older Peoples Health



While the above runs are available each quarter, we also have several 6 month runs available as well (O&G and Paediatrics). If your interest lies in these specialties, please indicate your preferences in your cover letter.   If we don’t hear from you, we will assume you are applying for a general role.  The runs are:

Mōu ake | About you

We are interested in hearing from RMO’s that have a minimum of one year post graduate medical experience and be eligible for, or already hold, registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.


You must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand and be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.  You can check your eligibility for registration by visiting the Council’s website at


Candidates who are not currently registered with the New Zealand Medical Council should be aware that it is a requirement of the NZ Medical Council that your qualifications are approved through EPIC. If you have a commitment to working in New Zealand it is highly recommended that you start this process as soon as possible to allow your subsequent registration to be undertaken in a timely fashion. Utu whānui |Salary range

This role is covered by the terms and conditions of the New Zealand Resident Doctors' Association & 20 DHB Multi Employer Collective Agreement 17 May 2021 - 31 March 2024 (NZRDA MECA) and the Speciality Trainees of New Zealand and Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand RMO Collective Agreement 14 February 2024 - 28 February 2026 (the SToNZ MECA) and the salary will fall between $68,896 - $159,620 dependent on relevant experience.
