Dunedin Hospital and Wakari Hospital

Salary Band – $50,000 - $60,000 ($23.50 - $28.68 per hour)

 

  • Permanent full time position (9 new roles available)
  • Covering Mornings (07:00-15:35) Afternoons (15:00-23:35) or Nights (23:00-07:35)
  • Working a 4-on, 2-off roster pattern

Mō te tūranga | About the role

Most of your time will be spent at Wakari Hospital, providing support to mental health patients and patients with intellectual disabilities, and ensuring our staff and visitors feel safe.

 

This is a new team, we’re looking for 9 people to provide 24/7 support to this Hospital, with occasional shifts at Dunedin Hospital too. In this role, no two shifts will be the same - you’ll need to think on your feet, remain calm under pressure and show compassion and empathy in times of distress. Previous security experience is preferred but not essential for the right candidate, and training leading to nationally recognised security qualifications will be provided.

 

Our primary role is ‘Healthcare’ – Looking after our patients.

Secondary to that is ‘Security’ – Keeping everyone safe.

 

As part of our busy security team, you will be involved in a number of different duties such as:

  • routine patrols
  • report writing
  • welfare checks
  • diffusing tense situations before they escalate
  • ensuring the overall security of our people and buildings

You will be a peacemaker, a confident communicator and display kindness and helpfulness while remaining firm and alert. You will have experience working with people from all walks of life, be non- judgemental and have a good level of physical fitness.

Our Healthcare Security Officers work on a rostered basis 7 days a week, so you will need to have the flexibility to cover a variety of shifts.

Utu whānui | Salary range

This role belongs to the Etū Multi Collective Employer Agreement, Designated Security Officer Scale and falls between Grade 1 ($23.50ph) and Grade 4 ($28.68ph).
