Are you looking for a new challenge? Perhaps you are interested in working in the health industry, or getting some hands-on experience to support your learning? Good news! We are now inviting applications for Health Care Assistants to join us in permanent roles in our medical teams.

 

About the Role

The Health Care Assistant role will see you assisting our multidisciplinary team with patient cares to ensure efficient and effective functioning for patients and staff in our medical areas. Our HCA’s are an integral part of our health care team, working alongside and under the direction of Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses to care for our patients.

 

The role involves, but is not limited to:

  • Supporting our nurses and other members of the health care team
  • Patient supervision and/or movement
  • Patient cares, as required
  • Stock reconciliation
  • Ward maintenance
  • Patient watch, with one on one care as required

 

Full training and orientation will be provided to successful candidates, as well as the opportunity to work towards NZQA Level 3 & 4. All HCA roles in our services include rostered shifts as hospitals are a 24/7 operation – this may include the need to work night shifts from time to time.

 

About You

As noted above, this is a physically demanding role, e.g. transferring of patients, and you will spend a lot of time on your feet and on the move, therefore a degree of physical fitness is essential. The team is supportive and friendly, and the opportunity to gain great job satisfaction is huge if you enjoy working at a fast pace. 

 

We are particularly interested in hearing from applicants with previous health care experience or a desire to enter the industry, and from those who are dynamic, friendly and can demonstrate a high level of initiative. You will be committed to high standards of practice, be well organised and have excellent communication skills.

 

It is important that candidates are motivated, flexible, have a level of maturity about them and of course plenty of enthusiasm. Experience working with people in a caring capacity is also essential, whether than experience is gained from within a professional environment, or from caring for children or family members.

Pre-Employment checks

  • Following the update to COVID-19 Public Health Response (Vaccinations) Order 2021, to be employed with Southern DHB you will be required to be fully vaccinated as a health care worker.  If you have already been fully vaccinated, you will need to provide proof of this to Occupational Health staff.  If you are not yet fully vaccinated you must make arrangements to undertake your first vaccination no later than the 30 October 2021 and be fully vaccinated, as required by the Order, by 1 December 2021
