The opportunity

Located in Invercargill, the breath of services provided by Southland Adult Mental Health Service includes the Acute Inpatient Mental Health Unit (16-18 beds), the Invercargill Community Mental Health Team, the Southland Emergency Mental Health Team for the Southland population, a Child and Youth Mental Health Service and also a psychogeriatric service.

 

We are looking for Mental Health superstars to join our multi-disciplinary team in the Inpatient Unit or the Community Service to help us care for our local population. As a new team member, we offer a comprehensive orientation and induction to Southland Hospital and the Mental Health service. You will join a welcoming and unified group of Mental Health experts based at the Southland Hospital site.

About you

  • Experience working with adult patients with mental illness in an Inpatient Unit and/or community setting
  • A motivated team player who delivers a high-quality care to patients and their family/whānau.
  • Commitment to clinical and professional development
  • Current registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
  • Adhere to the professional codes of ethics and standards of practice of the New Zealand Medical Council.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments
  • Utilise evidence-based assessment tools and clinical expertise
  • Provide individualised, client-centred therapy
  • Monitor and evaluate clients' progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary to support their mental well-being
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records and other required documentation
  • Prescribe medications when appropriate.
