Are you a specialist geriatrician looking for an exciting opportunity to help older people in a supportive team environment? If so, our Older People’s Health Service at Southland Hospital would welcome your application. We are seeking to employ a full-time (1.0 FTE) Consultant Geriatrician who will join our experienced team of geriatricians, nurses and allied health professionals at Southland Hospital in Invercargill.
The Service provides a combination of inpatient, outpatient and community services to clients in the Southland area. Using a team approach, we provide comprehensive services for people with age-related health problems (e.g. stroke, fractured neck of femur, delirium and cognitive impairment). We maintain a close liaison with all other hospital and community services with a particular emphasis on Mental Health Services for Older People, Needs Assessment and Service Coordination service and Orthopaedics.
The objective is to enable patients to achieve the highest possible level of independence (i.e. remain in community as long as possible) so that the emphasis is on:
- Promoting ‘wellness’, independence and participation
- Close liaison with community services
- Comprehensive discharge planning
You will be joining our current team which consists of one Senior Medical Staff (Geriatrician) and 2 house officers. We are looking for someone to join us who is excited about developing a vision for the future of the Service. To enjoy this role, you’ll need to be committed to quality service delivery and development and be able to work effectively as a senior clinician within a multidisciplinary team.

Utu whānui |Salary range
This role belongs to the ASMS Collective Agreement and falls between the Step 1 ($170,369) and Step 15 ($250,560 p.a prorata)
