Mō te tūranga | About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Registered Midwife with strong clinical leadership skills to join our Southland Hospital Maternity team as a Clinical Midwife Coordinator.

 

In this position you will work closely with the Midwife Manager to:

  • Assist in the establishment and promotion of clinical midwifery professional standards
  • Ensure effective day to day coordination across shifts and management within the area, working collaboratively with the CMM and the wider maternity team
  • Promote excellence in clinical practice and ensure provision of high quality midwifery care
  • You will have a supervisory role for Registered Midwives / Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, Maternity / Health Care Assistants and Students

Alongside your clinical expertise, our ideal candidate will also be an excellent communicator with a high level of integrity and  interpersonal skills. You will have confidence with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.

 

Some of the skills we are looking for are:

  • It is essential that you are a Registered Midwife and hold a current annual practicing certificate.
  • Have proven clinical credibility in all aspects of midwifery care
  • Possess excellent communication, including techniques in conflict resolution, diffusion and mediation skills
  • Be a critical consumer of research and embrace evidenced based practice when carrying out any task or function
  • Proven ability building successful working relationships with those around you, the ability to work independently or within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Hold a relevant post-graduate qualification or be willing to work towards one.

Southern Midwifery support a very diverse maternity community spread across of the region, providing care to whanau in urban, rural and remote areas of Southern region. To achieve our maternity and broader population health goals we work in partnership with Iwi, primary care and community providers, rural trust hospitals and education and research partners across the district.

 

Here at Southland Hospital, we operate an 18-bed integrated unit handling approximately 1,200 births a year as part of a full range of primary and secondary maternity services. As the only secondary birthing unit in Southland, we offer inpatient and outpatient antenatal, delivery and postnatal services and a Lactation Consultancy Service. Our brand of care and compassion involves a very special blend of strength, compassion and cool headedness from our midwives who welcome our babies into the world.

Utu whānui |Salary range

This role falls under the terms and conditions of the MERAS Midwives Collective Agreement (1 February 2024 – 30 April 2025), and falls between the step 1 ($115,164 p.a prorata) and Step 2 ($122,660 p.a prorata) of the Designated Senior Midwifery Salary Scale – Grade 3
