Due to an internal promotion we have an opportunity for an exceptional senior nurse looking to take the next step in their nursing career to lead our team as Charge Nurse Manager of Southland Hospital Emergency Department.  This is a full-time permanent position.

 

About the Role

Our Emergency Department is a busy service and provides care for approximately 38,500 attendances every year.  We have a triage area, a rapid assessment area, dedicated resuscitation areas, acute, sub-acute and paediatric cubicles.  Our department carries out all acute care, including full patient resuscitation, management of trauma, fractures, injuries etc. The ED’s vision is to be a centre of clinical care and customer service excellence. We pride ourselves on having a strong focus on customer service and its success is reliant on effective communication and teamwork. Reporting to the Director of Nursing and strongly supported by the Senior Leadership Team, a key focus of your role will be ensuring contemporary Models of Care are implemented and evaluated in response to the changing needs of the community, health system and focus of the Southern DHB’s ‘right care, right time, in the right place’. 

 

Excitingly, the Emergency Department has recently had approval for some extensive facility redesign which you will lead alongside the Clinical Director and wider management team.  This is a rare opportunity to lead a significant project for the Emergency Department that will provide an exciting challenge for the right candidate.

 

Key accountabilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Clinical Leadership of the department: fostering a culture that strives for excellence in clinical service provision within allocated resources.
  • Quality and Risk Management of the department.
  • Service Planning and Delivery: leading and managing the department to provide efficient and effective services, and participating in and leading department service planning
  • Staff Management and Recruitment:  Developing a cohesive and productive team, and ensuring best practice HR standards are met

 

About You

You must bring a clear focussed vision; strive for contemporary practice, be calm under pressure, an excellent communicator and be ‘firm, but fair,’ with the ability to inspire staff and be their advocate when needed.  Here at Southern DHB we seek leaders who embody our core values, believe strongly in the value of education and research, and are able to build solid networks, both within the DHB and externally.  

 

Your clinical credibility in Emergency Medicine nursing will be complemented by your advanced communication skills; you’ll be a natural at building successful working relationships, and have proven experience in conflict resolution and mediation.  Naturally a glass half full person, you will be an adept problem solver, with the flexibility to make sound clinical and leadership decisions on your feet. 

 

The successful candidates will have a current NZ APC, relevant post-graduate nursing experience, PDRP Level 3, and be looking to develop advanced nursing and leadership skills.
