Mō te tūranga | About the role

We are looking for an experienced casual medical transcriptionist to support the orthopaedic service based at Dunedin Hospital. This is a role that will provide an opportunity to demonstrate outstanding coordination skills, your ability to work autonomously, and also use your initiative.  This is a demanding role working with a high level of administration tasks and interfacing with a large multidisciplinary team.

After a comprehensive orientation to the role, you will be dealing with patient information to transcribe operation notes and clinical letters within certain timeframes. You will be working within a supportive multi-disciplinary team consisting of several health disciplines. Our transcriptionists all work together providing a fun and friendly atmosphere.

The work required to be undertaken is fast paced and you will be working to strict deadlines.  It relies heavily on technology; therefore you must be confident around computer systems and Dictaphones; with the ability to type accurately with high attention to detail.  You must also be conscious of working with the utmost discretion as you’ll be privy to patient information. You may be required to assist other departments for staff leave or if another department is struggling to meet their typing deadlines.

To enjoy the Medical transcriptionist position you’ll be the kind of person who likes a fast paced environment and thrive at working to deadlines. As you’ll be dealing with patient information it is essential that you show us you have an eye for accuracy and are confident around computer systems, including Dictaphone typing.

This role requires someone with a typing speed of at least 70 words per minute and ideally you will have medical typing experience or be an excellent typist with an interest in the health field.

Utu whānui |Salary range

This role is covered by the terms and conditions of the PSA South Island Clerical Multi-Employer Collective Agreement and the salary will be in accordance with the National Health Administration Workers Pay Scale, Band 3B between Step 1 $31.46 per hour and Step 3 $33.57 per hour dependant on relevant experience.
