Mō te tūranga | About the role

Keen to further develop your surgical skills?  Have a keen interest in Cardiothoracic Surgery?  Want to experience more of this field than a 3 or 4 month rotation? Want to experience life in New Zealand’s adventure backyard?

Dunedin Hospital is seeking applications from Registrars interested in pursuing a career in Cardiothoracic Surgery.  Ideally applicants will already have Registrar experience in this specialty, however this is not essential. You can complete your Part 1 studies in a supportive environment with an opportunity to complete a required rotation in our intensive care unit. As one of the three dedicated Cardiothoracic Surgery Registrars in a team of four it is expected the successful candidate will become an integral member of the service. The small size of the team guarantees more one-on-one time with consultants and more time spent assisting in theatre.

Mōu ake | About you

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A minimum of two years’ post qualification experience experience and preferably some surgical experience at Registrar level
  • You must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand and be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.  You can check your eligibility for registration by visiting the Council’s website at www.mcnz.org.nz.

Candidates who are not currently registered with the New Zealand Medical Council should be aware that it is a requirement of the NZ Medical Council that your qualifications are approved through EPIC.
