About the Role
This role covers multiple teams including Emergency Psychiatric Service, Community Day Programmes, Consultation Liaison Service, Crisis Respite, Psychiatric Records, the DAMHS office and Co-Response Team.
Emergency Psychiatric Service provides around the clock urgent assessments and interventions for consumers of all ages. Community Programmes is a mental health service based at Dunedin Hospital providing recovery focused group programmes for adults with a wide range of moderate to severe mental health issues, living within the community.
This position will see you provide support to the Charge Nurse Manager with day to day operational and management of functions across the teams. A key aspect of this position is to act as a role model to nursing and support staff as well as ongoing communication with other members of the multidisciplinary clinical team. The ACNM assists the CNM to provide clinical leadership, monitors and mitigates risk, engages in quality initiatives, coordinates resources to meet the identified needs of patients and team members ensuring delivery of safe patient centred/focussed care.
The successful candidate will be required to become knowledgeable and gain experience in privacy legislation, Mental Health Act (MHA) legislation and more. You will support the CNM in providing specialist advice to the whole MHAID service on matters relating to privacy, releasing health information and the storage and disposal issues.
A close working relationship with the CNM will be essential as will establishing good professional working relationships with other staff in the team and with people from within the wider sector.

About you
You will have a minimum of 5 years’ post registration experience within a mental health setting you will also have post graduate qualifications (relevant to mental health), at a minimum a PG cert, It is also expected that you will be currently working in a Senior Nurse designated role or have achieved/or be working towards PDRP Level 4 Expert Nurse.

- Be currently Registered with the New Zealand Nursing Council
- Have a current APC with a scope of practice that allows you to work in Mental Health
- Be a positive and confident registered nurse who has drive and enthusiasm
- Have a sound understanding of mental health both operationally and clinically.
- Be a respected professional in your own right
- Be an exceptional team member with strong communication skills.
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
- Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
