About the Role

You’ll be part of a team providing a full range of specialist acute and elective surgery to patients, providing comprehensive elective general orthopaedic services, as well as 24-hour Orthopaedic Trauma and Orthopaedic Emergency care.

 The scope of your work will be varied and will include exposure to a range of subspecialties including:

• Trauma surgery                       
• Foot and Ankle Surgery
• Joint replacement                    
• Sports Medicine
• Orthopaedic Surgery
• Spinal surgery                         
• Occupational Medicine
• Paediatric Orthopaedics          
• Upper Limb Surgery    
• Scoliosis surgery

The opportunity to provide healthcare to a large geographical area, ensuring your exposure to a wider range of work and resulting in an enviably broad skill base. There is a strong collaborative relationship with the University of Otago, making a number of teaching and research options possible for those keen to pursue their academic careers whilst completing their clinical work. The service has weekly teaching, case discussions, journal clubs, and peer review sessions.

This role belongs to the New Zealand Resident Doctors’ Association and Te Whatu Ora (Health New Zealand) Collective Agreement and Specialty Trainees of New Zealand (STONZ) and Te Whatu Ora (Health New Zealand) Collective Agreement

About you

Our ideal candidate will have:

• Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.  You can check your eligibility for registration by visiting the Council’s website at MCNZ
• A minimum of 2 years post qualification and possess a strong interest in progressing their Orthopaedic careers and be keen to become a participating member of the team

It is requirement of the Medical Council of New Zealand that your qualifications are approved through EPIC. If you have a commitment to working in New Zealand, it is highly recommended that you start this process as soon as possible to allow your subsequent registration to be undertaken in a timely fashion.
