Dunedin Hospital has 300 beds and services the Southern region which covers a population of around 340,000. The Anaesthesia Service delivers contemporary high quality care and is supported by our well-trained technicians and PACU staff. This is also an exciting time to join as our service prepares for the New Dunedin Hospital. As a Specialist Anaesthetist, you’ll be expected to provide anaesthesia for a mix of general lists covering a broad range of specialist services. You will also be expected to provide afterhours cover and participate on a 1:8 call roster.
We are a tertiary level teaching hospital with a full range of elective and acute surgical specialities and can offer you a varied and challenging array of anaesthesia work. Ideally, we are looking for someone with the following skills and experience to complement our team:
- An excellent general skill set
- A team player with exceptional interpersonal skills who builds effective relationships both within and external to their team
- Is solutions focussed and can demonstrate excellent decision making and priority setting in a clinical environment
- Enthusiasm for teaching and passing on their knowledge to others in the team
Mōu ake | About you
Appointed specialists will possess FANZCA or an equivalent qualification allowing a vocational registration with the NZ Medical Council. The Health New Zealand - Southern recruitment team are able to provide support in applying or renewing previous vocational registration. Applications from overseas physicians who had previous vocational registration are welcomed.

Utu whānui | Salary range
This role belongs to the ASMS Collective Agreement and falls between the Step 1 ($185,380) and Step 15 ($267,980 p.a prorata)
