About the Opportunity

As a Social Worker in this team, you will have sound social work knowledge and skills, be a team player with excellent communication skills and work cohesively as part of the interdisciplinary team. You will be part of the Allied Health Unit social work team based at Dunedin Public Hospital.  Allied Health Unit social workers cover acute physical health inpatients and outpatient/community women and children social work.  This position is likely to start in adult inpatient but will be required from time to time to cover women and children social work.

You will provide social work practice facilitating safe discharges and providing psychosocial support to patients and their whanau/families referred to our service and ensuring patient safety and risk assessments are carried out. You will also work closely with other Health Professionals and non-governmental organisations. You will be required in this role is to provide pregnancy counselling, therefore experience or willingness to up-skill in this area will be an added advantage.

 

About You

You are required to be registered with New Zealand Social Work Board (NZSWRB) with a current practising certificate. Ideally you will have experience working in acute hospital, women’s and children’s health. It is essential that you bring an understanding of the social determinants of health and the impact this has on client’s health and social needs.  Willingness to provide pregnancy counselling, and or up-skill in this area will be an added advantage.

Experience in working in the health sector, preferably in a medical, surgical or similar area. You should have the ability to work creatively and autonomously and to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team and be able to communicate easily with a variety of people. You will need to think on your feet and remain calm under pressure.
