Service Manager – Women’s & Children’s Health

About the Opportunity


This crucial and challenging role will provide leadership and direction to a multidisciplinary team within the Women’s & Children’s Health Service that includes, Paediatrics, Neonatology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology.  You will work in partnership with specialist clinicians to form strategic operational plans, and be supported by a cohesive team of junior doctors, allied health and nursing staff who are committed to delivering exceptional care to our patients.


You will navigate across multiple internal and external services such as GP’s, Midwives and Community Services as well as NICU, Surgery, Adult Specialty and other support teams. By managing and prioritising stakeholder expectations, you will play in key role in providing a positive and seamless experience to service users.

Key deliverables include:

  • Operational and strategic leadership and management.
  • Staff management and leadership
  • Relationship building across disciplines and services, both internal and external to the DHB.
  • Promoting a culture of empathy and kindness while fostering a healthy and safe environment as part of caring for the wellbeing requirements of a large team.
  • Working with clinical leads to navigate the service through the coming years as we continue to plan for a workforce that can deliver a transformed health service for our district.
  • Business planning and service delivery.
  • Financial Management.
  • Drive for results and performance and quality improvement that produces ideal outcomes for our Service.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with our family and patient communities, building trust and respect.



About You

This is a dynamic and ever changing environment to operate within. Demonstrating professional credibility as a leader, we are looking for someone with maturity, empathy and resilience who is a natural relationship builder. You have strong communication skills with the ability to listen and critically appraise situations with a natural flair for problem solving.  You will operate with the best interests of our patients and their whanau at the centre of your focus, and balance competing priorities that will utilise your organisation skills allowing you to effectively manage a high volume workload. A broad knowledge of health needs across our population will prove to be valuable.


You will have a tertiary qualification within health or management and ideally a passion for Women’s & Children’s Health coupled with leadership experience in the health care sector. Your commitment to the success of shared goals and your approachability will be evident in the roles you’ve held previously.
