Mō te tūranga | About the role

The Maternal Mental Health Service within the Invercargill Community Mental Health Team provides mental health assessment and treatment for women experiencing a known or suspected mental health condition during their pregnancy and up to the first year post-partum.  The emphasis is on identification and early intervention for those experiencing a moderate to severe Mental Illness as well as promoting maternal mental wellbeing and optimal health for both mother and baby.  The service works closely with mothers, family/whanau, midwifes, GPs, hospital based services, including Regional Services and other community agencies in a supportive, educational and clinical role that is firmly based upon the mental health recovery principles.

Mōu ake | About you

We are looking for a highly motivated Registered Nurse with a passion and interest in Maternal health and experience working with Mental Health.  Within this position you will be responsible for managing a busy caseload, undertaking assessments and providing interventions, while assessing and evaluating clinical risk.  You will have a good knowledge of community resources and be able to foster relationships and facilitate referral to other agencies/services where indicated.


Our ideal candidate will have:

  • To be successful in this role you will have community and / or recent mental health acute inpatient experience.
  • It is important that you have an interest in Maternal Mental Health.
  • You will also hold a strong sense of ‘self’, a positive ‘can do’ attitude and a commitment to working cohesively in a multidisciplinary team environment. You should be able to demonstrate a commitment to best practice standards and your model of practice will be inclusive of the seven Real Skills of Let’s get real (
  • proven leadership and the ability to meet the demands of a busy workload to a high standard
  • You should be a New Zealand Registered Nurse with a minimum of 3 years’ experience, with current APC and hold a full NZ drivers’ licence.

Utu whānui | Salary range

This role belongs to the DHBs/NZNO Collective Agreement and falls between the Step 2 ($64,291 p.a) and Step 8 ($88,757 p.a pro-rata)
