We are currently recruiting for a range of nursing positions in our busy emergency department at Southland Hospital. 

 

About the Service

Our Emergency Department is a busy service and provides care for approximately 38,500 attendances every year. We have a triage area, a rapid assessment area, dedicated resuscitation areas, acute, sub-acute and paediatric cubicles.  Our department carries out all acute care, including full patient resuscitation facilities, management of trauma, fractures, injuries etc. We have a state of the art facility that is recognised as a centre of excellence in emergency care that is due to double in size in the next year.  We pride ourselves on having a strong focus on customer service and our success is reliant on effective communication and teamwork.  The ED’s vision is to be a centre of clinical care and customer service excellence.   

 

About the Role – what’s in it for me?

This is an exciting opportunity for nurses wanting to develop their skills in the area of emergency department nursing.  We offer a number of educational opportunities including: a comprehensive orientation programme; on-going development in emergency nursing skills e.g. Trauma Nursing Core Course,  High Acuity Care, Triage Course, and Advanced Life Support. There are also career pathways and opportunities for motivated employees to develop and further their careers within this service, supported by a team of Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Clinical Nurse Co-ordinators.

 

Our Clinical Nurse Specialist Role provides specialist nursing and expertise both in direct care delivery and in support to other staff in the management of a defined patient/consumer group/area of speciality practice. The Clinical Nurse Specialist will exercise independent nursing judgement, apply advanced assessment skills, initiate appropriate clinical judgement, evaluate outcomes, advise others and provide sound rationale for actions in area of speciality/practice

 

We’re looking for nurses who are experienced and organised, friendly and calm, able to work independently and at the same time genuinely interested in the best outcome for both patient and team.

 

  • Must have current registration with the New Zealand Nursing Council and a current APC, with the right to work in New Zealand.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively with other professionals.
  • Excellent time management, interpersonal and organisational skills
  • The ability to be adaptable, flexible and solution focused.
  • Previous ED/acute experience is essential, and you must have at least 1 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • For CNS roles – a minimum of 5 years practice within the defined scope of clinical speciality and ideally you will have or be working towards a post graduate diploma and/or master’s degree, and Level 3 / 4 PDRP.
