About Us

Charlotte Jean Maternity Hospital are ceasing their contract to provide Primary Maternity Services in Central Otago, this has given Southern District Health Board the opportunity to continue to run this service.  The service will be renamed Central Otago Maternity Hospital and will remain at 26 Ventry Street in Alexandra. We look forward to working with the staff to provide the same high standard of maternity care for women and their whānau in Central Otago that the Charlotte Jean Maternity Hospital staff have provided for the past 23 years.

About the role

Your role involves a very special blend of strength, compassion and cool headedness supporting maternity care, antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal.

We are looking for experienced midwives with a commitment to quality care, who embody the Southern DHB values, Kind, Open, Positive and a Sense of Community in all that they do.

We have permanent 0.6FTE, 24 hour per week roles available. The roster will cover Monday to Sunday, 8am to 8pm, these 12 hour shifts will see you on site for 10 hours (0800 to 1800) and on call for the final two hours if no women are using the facility. Overnight shifts will be covered with an on-call roster and you will be required to come into the unit if needed.

If you have an interest in the role but seek a different FTE (Please note not less than 0.4FTE) we should talk, as we may have some flexibility in the FTE we can offer.

 

About you

You will be using your valuable midwifery experience to provide the very best possible care to our women and babies. As a Registered Midwife who has an interest in joining a team where integrity, honesty and a great sense of humour counts, it is essential you also:

  • Possess excellent assessment skills
  • Have a passion and focus for working with families/whanau with compassion and kindness
  • Be an exceptional team player who has strong communication skills
  • previous experience in supporting mothers with breastfeeding
  • Be a Registered Midwife with a current APC for New Zealand
