Orthopaedic Registrar

Southern DHB is currently seeking applications from RMOs interested in joining the team at Dunedin Hospital as an Orthopaedic Registrar.

 

The Role

You’ll be part of a team providing a full range of specialist acute and elective surgery to patients, providing comprehensive elective general orthopaedic services, as well as 24-hour Orthopaedic Trauma and Orthopaedic Emergency care.  The scope of your work will be varied and will include exposure to a range of subspecialties including:

 

  • Trauma surgery                        
  • Foot and Ankle Surgery
  • Joint replacement                     
  • Sports Medicine
  • Orthopaedic Surgery
  • Spinal surgery                         
  • Occupational Medicine 
  • Paediatric Orthopaedics          
  • Upper Limb Surgery     

 

The opportunity to provide healthcare to a large geographical area, ensuring your exposure to a wide range of work and resulting in an enviably broad skill base.

 

Great support for educational needs, including weekly teaching, case discussions, journal clubs, and peer review sessions, you will also be entitled to free meals when on duty.

 

The Hospital 

Dunedin Hospital is a tertiary level hospital of 350 beds located in central Dunedin, New Zealand, servicing the city of Dunedin and the wider Otago region.

 

Southern DHB (which encompasses Dunedin and Southland Hospital) has a strong collaborative relationship with the University of Otago, making a number of teaching and research options possible for those keen to pursue their academic careers whilst completing their clinical work.

Requirements

We are interested in hearing from Registrars interested in progressing their Orthopaedic careers.  Successful candidates will possess a strong interest in Orthopaedics and be keen to become a participating member of the team.

  • You must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand and be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.  You can check your eligibility for registration by visiting the Council’s website at www.mcnz.org.nz.
  • A current CV and cover letter
  • Contact details for 3 Consultants we may contact directly for references. These Consultants will have supervised your day-to-day clinical work and one of the referees provided must be from your current or most recent employer. Please ensure you advise your referees of their nomination so they are aware they will be contacted by the Southern DHB

 

Candidates who are not currently registered with the New Zealand Medical Council should be aware that it is a requirement of the NZ Medical Council that your qualifications are approved through EPIC. If you have a commitment to working in New Zealand it is highly recommended that you start this process as soon as possible so as to allow your subsequent registration to be undertaken in a timely fashion.
