Medical Physicists

Southern Blood & Cancer Service, Dunedin Hospital, New Zealand

  • Opportunity to share your expertise in radiation oncology and develop clinical techniques
  • Full-time permanent 1.0FTE vacancies (40 hours per week)

Are you looking for a new challenge and the chance to live in beautiful Aotearoa?  Southern District Health Board in our fabulous South Island has an exciting opportunity for you to make your mark.  We are seeking highly motivated and experienced Medical Physicists to join our friendly team in Dunedin Hospital on a full-time, permanent basis.

The Opportunity

Come and make this the defining role of your career. It’s the chance to excel and grow professionally - surrounded by dedicated, supportive and highly talented colleagues. Yet it’s also a huge opportunity to help shape and guide the evolution of our Blood and Cancer Service – setting us up with the best people, processes, and patient-centred care. What’s more – while you’ll thrive in the professional challenge and satisfaction this creates - you’ll be enjoying it all while living in one of the most enviable locations in the world: stunning Southern New Zealand. We are dedicated to giving everything we’ve got to creating a world-class oncology service for our communities and our team. So if you’re ready to give it your all to be part of this exciting journey, read on.

Calling on your prowess in the development of clinical techniques and innovations, you’ll take on a pivotal role in our service. At its core this will be the clinical application of radiation to treat cancer. But it’s the approach you take through care, compassion and connection with both patients and your multidisciplinary team, that will make all the difference.  No doubt you’ll be interested to know that our equipment is up there with the best, so you’re able to do what you do best. We currently have three Linear Accelerators including an Elekta HD Versa, Varian TrueBeam and Clinac iX, a Monaco treatment planning system and Mosaiq oncology patient management system, Siemens CT scanner, and an Ortho-Voltage unit. SBCS delivers Body Stereotactic treatment for lung and spine in addition to providing the national cranial stereotactic service.

There is a lot to look forward to when you join us in Dunedin – in both a professional and personal sense. So, to make the most of what’s on offer here, what we’re looking for from you is ACPSEM certification / accreditation in radiation oncology medical physics, or an international equivalent. It’s essential you also have a post-graduate degree in Medical Physics or Physics. Importantly, we are keen to see experience with Elekta and Varian Linacs including clinical experience with Stereotactic Ablative Body Radiotherapy (SABR); and Linac quality assurance procedures.

If you share our passion for innovation and continuous improvement in patient centred care and are excited at the prospect of helping us create and navigate our future path, we’re keen to hear from you.
