Southland Hospital

Join us as we change the future of healthcare in Southern New Zealand

Mō te tūranga | About the role

We have several opportunities available for House Officers who are seeking a Southern lifestyle!

With hospitals small enough to give you hands-on specialist-led experience, yet big enough to learn through an internationally renowned research partnership, your career opportunities are limitless. We’re looking for Doctors who want to level up, grow their areas of interest, and work with specialists who know their name.

Working in a close-knit team, you will have excellent access to your Registrar & Consultant, and unrivalled opportunities to experience many of the varied presentations to the hospital.  You will be exposed to a number of medical situations that will equip you well for future training Registrar roles.   You will have continued support in your professional development through 24/7 access to the library, weekly teaching and Grand Rounds, journal clubs, and regular RMO forums.

Our runs include:

  • General Medicine
  • General Surgery
  • Orthopaedics
  • Psychiatry
  • AT&R
  • ED – 6 months run
  • Paediatrics – 6 months run
  • O&G – 6 months run
  • Reliever roles

If your interest lies in the specialties that are 6 months in length, please indicate your preferences in your cover letter.   If we don’t hear from you, we will assume you are applying for a general role.

We also have a 6-month Trauma / ED run based in our Orthopaedics service. This run is 6 months in length. If you are interested in registering your interest in this role, please contact Mr Chris Phoon at Christopher.phoon@southerndhb.govt.nz .
