Dunedin and Wakari hospitals are looking for 10 Healthcare Assistants to join their multidisciplinary teams, on a permanent basis to provide support in a busy yet rewarding work environment.
Mō te tūranga | About the role
In this important role you will help with a range of direct and non-direct patient care tasks under the direction of a registered nurse and maintain the department environment to ensure efficient and effective functioning including:
- Patient watch/ supervision and/or movement with one-on-one care
- Restocking and setting up of equipment
- General department housekeeping
- Supporting our nurses and other members of the healthcare team
- Clerical duties as required
- Stock reconciliation
Hours of work are Monday to Sunday based on rostered shifts including weekends.
We are looking for Healthcare assistants to fill positions across both hospitals in surgical, medical, and mental health departments. You may be required to fill a role within any of our units so please state your preferred unit within your cover letter. Both hospitals run under Te Whatu Ora Southern.
Mōu ake | About you
The successful applicant will be:
- Well organised, with a positive “can do” attitude and be able to communicate clearly and openly
- Must be able to take direction from a variety of staff
- Previous experience working with people in the health sector is a must.
- Being comfortable with using computers
- Preferably a full driver’s licence and be comfortable driving others.
- Able to pass pre-employment checks

Utu whānui | Salary range
This role belongs to the expired NZNO Collective Agreement on the Health Care Assistant scale between Step 2 ($55,011 p.a prorata) and Step 5 ($61,540 p.a prorata).
