Permanent ( 1.0 FTE)

Southern District Health Board

About Southern District Health Board

Welcome to Southern DHB! Our DHB covers the largest geographical catchment amongst all the DHB’s in New Zealand. We proudly strive to provide top quality healthcare to our diverse patient population. We are now looking for a dynamic, forward thinking General Medicine Physician who is willing to influence, lead change within the department and bring their passion and commitment for acute and outpatients care to the fore.

About the Role

This is a full time 1.0 FTE role with on call duties, based in Dunedin. You are joining a team that values kindness and collaboration, with a view to the future of healthcare. As an introduction, we provide care for a population of approximately 350,000 spread over the lower South Island of New Zealand.  Our staff enjoy close relationships with the University of Otago, School of Medicine and Otago Polytechnic School of Nursing. We benefit from continuous professional development, involvement with medical and nursing student training, participation in research and many more opportunities arising from working in a combined clinical-academic environment.

Currently we are a team of ten and there is equal participation in the after hour roster for weeknights and weekends, and at times you will be a second on-call on the roster. Our tight knit team values the importance of creating a work environment that is welcoming, safe, equitable and inclusive; therefore, it is key for you to have a sound understanding of and commitment to multi-cultural living and family / whanau principles. These core values align with our work and life practices and team well-being. Duties include patient management, leading ward rounds, undertaking clinical procedures, involvement audit, teaching, undertaking research and participating in continuing professional development.

However, life is for living and Otago is an amazing place to live; we also work closely with our team to ensure achievement of good work/life balance.

About Dunedin
Dunedin is a great little city with a big town feel and well-known for its Southern Hospitality. Outside of work, you will find life in Dunedin to be very easy with its great schools, laid back lifestyle and world-famous wildlife on the Otago Peninsula. This compact  yet vibrant regional city has plenty of energy, which is to be expected with it being a University town. This sustains great activities such as theatre, stunning gardens, art galleries, live-music and a diverse selection of restaurants and cafés. Central Otago is a notable holiday destination and many outdoor recreation opportunities are easily accessible from Dunedin.

About You

As the successful candidate, you will have a broad Internal Medicine background. We are keen to hear from you if you are dual trained, and will support an approach to the relevant DHB service to support your additional interest.

A Fellowship with the RACP or an overseas equivalent is essential, as is eligibility for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
