About the Role

We are looking for an experienced leader to be our next General Manager for Mental Health, Addictions and Intellectual Disability (MHAID). Reporting to our Group Director of Operations this broad role leads a team of multidisciplinary leaders, service managers and specialists across our geographically and demographically diverse region. This is a very tangible opportunity to make a real difference in key areas of health service design and delivery.

Health New Zealand - Southern has the largest geographical coverage of all the New Zealand regions, providing services to 350,000 people in diverse communities. About you

You will be a credible and experienced senior leader who knows what great looks like. You will bring an absolute commitment to lifting capability and performance in key areas for the improved outcomes of patients and whanau in our Mental Health Services and supporting the wellbeing of our staff. You will demonstrate positive leadership, sound judgment and decision making at all times, and will always lead by example and work side by side with your stakeholders and colleagues in direction setting, system and service development.

To be considered for this position it is essential that you:

  • Demonstrate high levels of strategic and operational leadership and intellectual bandwidth
  • Are known as a resilient and visionary leader among your peers
  • Have a track record of ownership and accountability in programme and change management, and quality improvement.
  • Know how to get the best from dispersed teams and managing through others
  • Bring drive and tenacity for performance excellence and improved measurable results
  • Have strong financial acumen, including the ability to build strong business cases built on evidence and analysis and the ability to manage a large operational budget.
  • Are an exemplary relationship builder with a positive, solutions-oriented outlook.

Ideally, you will have substantial experience in mental health; but we will also consider candidates with strong relevant experience
