Community Respiratory & Sleep Physician

Join us as a Community Respiratory & Sleep Physician – This role is will see you develop and seamlessly support an integrated process for the diagnosis and management of respiratory conditions including obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) for patients of the Southern District Health Board (SDHB). You will also be involved in establishing community diagnostic testing for spirometry (primarily for the diagnosis of COPD) and sleep (sleep disordered breathing).


About The Opportunity

We have a tight knit team of six respiratory physicians across the Southern District. On either sites, the respiratory service has certified Respiratory Physiologists providing a wide range of diagnostic tests including challenge testing. There are also Sleep Physiologists on both sites responsible for the diagnostic testing, device fitting and ongoing care of patients in our community with CPAP and NIV units. 


In this role, you will be able to give back to the community and cut down barriers to testing for patients, and promote equity for our Maori and Pacifica patients and those that reside in rural settings.  You will work closely with Primary Care to educate and upskill in the care of this clinically vulnerable group and ensure that they are receiving optimal care to provide better outcomes. 


About You

You will have a personal commitment to maintaining high standards of practice and an unequivocal dedication to working as part of a team. You will have a sound understanding and commitment to biculturalism and the organisational values, with a commitment to continuing professional development and providing education and support at all levels. 


You will need to be registered, or be eligible for registration, as a respiratory physician by the New Zealand Medical Council, including having Fellowship of Royal Australasian College of Physicians or an equivalent and accepted international qualification, that enables specialist (locum tenens specialist registration) with the MCNZ, allowing you to be able to start in this role in the required timeframe.
