About us

The Practice Development Unit (Otago) is based within Dunedin Hospital and provides opportunities for inter-professional skills development and knowledge acquisition alongside professional practice development. The PDU is home to approximately 30 educators and coordinators all of whom deliver and facilitate educational opportunities within their designated areas as well as more broadly across the organisation. The team is close knit and supportive; always willing to lend a hand, develop new skills and initiatives and collaborate in order to ensure our healthcare environment provides the best quality, safety and patient/client experience.

 

About the opportunity

Due to a period of parental leave we have a great opportunity for an experienced health professional to join us on a part-time, fixed term basis for a period of up to 12 months in the role of Clinical Coordinator for Moving & Handling and Restraint Minimisation and Safe Practice. Ideally, we would like for one individual to take on both aspects but are open to the role being split into two distinct areas of Moving and Handling at 0.3 FTE and Restraint Minimisation and Safe Practice at 0.6 FTE. Working days are Monday to Friday with actual hours worked open to negotiation.

 

The purpose of these roles is to ensure that both staff and consumers of care remain safe while they move in, out and across our services. You will ensure safety practice principles are followed when moving anything from inanimate objects to consumers of healthcare. Equally you will have the opportunity to ensure restraint minimisation is practiced to the fullest ensuring consumer safety and quality of care. You will have the opportunity to work across services, innovate, implement change, streamline practice, network widely as well as gain valuable experience and skills.

 

 

About you

Our ideal candidate(s) will have:

 

  • Considerable post registration experience
  • Professional credibility in the clinical setting
  • Confidence and passion for supporting and developing a safe workplace for staff and consumers alike
  • First-rate knowledge of the professional standards and regulations
  • Superior interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

 

It is essential that you are a Registered Health Professional with a current practising certificate and either hold or be working towards an appropriate postgraduate qualification.
